Sophia Gruzdys is an architect and Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Southern California. She currently teaches design and urbanism in USC’s study abroad program in Barcelona. The former Director of Yale College’s architecture program, she has extensive professional experience at I.M. Pei and Partners in New York and earned her M.Arch degree with distinction from Harvard University.
Sophia is active in roles that connect U.S. and European design interests. She has organized multi-day international events on Architecture and Urbanism and leads annual tours of Spain, the Netherlands and Paris for University of Southern California. She has lectured and written about European urbanism, and contributed articles to “Architectural Record”, Alto Standing Magazine”, “Outstanding Magazine”, and “Living Archaeology in Rome”, published by Roma Tre University. Amongst many of her travel memories, the summer she lived near Freiburg im Breisgau, home of her mother’s alma mater, is one of her fondest.
Sophia is a registered architect in New York, Ohio and a Board member of the American Institute of Architects Continental Europe Chapter, and appointed the Chapter’s Vice President in 2019.
Sophia has led Architectural Adventures tours to Barcelona in 2017 and 2019, and to Rome in 2018. She will be leading the upcoming Rhine River Cruise in 2020.
